Eventfox: Privacy-First Product Analytics

Summary
Eventfox is a product analytics app for small SaaS products, agencies, small businesses and online shops. You add one small script to your site and get page views, custom events, sessions, visitors and funnels. It runs on your own Postgres database, so I never host anyone else's data. The MVP and V1 are built and working, including the dashboard, funnels, team access, data deletion and a published container image. I designed it first (the name, brand, design system and 35 screen mockups) and built it stage by stage with Claude Code cloud sessions rather than Cursor. I am now adding more reports and getting it ready to launch.
The Challenge
In my role at a pensions administrator, we needed an analytics platform that kept our data in the UK, and data protection came up a lot. That gave me the idea for a lightweight product analytics tool you host yourself, with a simple switch to anonymise user data. The privacy-friendly tools I'd seen only count visits, and the full product analytics tools keep your users' data on their servers. I wanted proper events and funnels with privacy you control, without paying for hosting.
Product Rationale
A real privacy switch
Each site picks Standard mode (IP, city and a random visitor ID) or Privacy mode (country only, nothing else). The server enforces it, not the browser.
MVP first, then V1
The first 15 stages get to an MVP: tracking, the dashboard, funnels and settings. Team access, data deletion and performance work come in V1, and 16 more ideas are parked on a roadmap.
What success looks like
A working analytics platform people can actually use, with a roadmap of features AI can build to make it business-ready. The stretch goal is keeping it light enough to be production-ready, not just a prototype.
Tech Stack
Key Decisions
No paid hosting
It runs in Docker on my PC, opened up through a free Tailscale Funnel. The trade-off is that events are lost while the PC is off, which I'm fine with for now.
My own login system
I dropped Supabase Auth so Eventfox can run on any Postgres. It still shares a Supabase project with my other apps, but in its own locked-down schema with no overlap.
Keep it simple until it isn't
Reports read straight from the raw events table. I'll only add summary tables if load testing shows they're needed.
Free for individuals, paid for businesses
It'll be released publicly under a licence that's free for individual users and paid for businesses, mostly on trust. There's a switch in the code for paid features, but nothing is locked in V1.
